What To Know About Maple Syrup
While maple syrup might seem something similar to a modern Canadian pastime, it was first made and utilized by the native peoples of North America well before the arrival from the Europeans. European settlers just adopted the practice, modifying it along the way.

Sugar Bush Farm
If in Vermont, consider visiting Sugar Bush Farm. They provide both free admission and free product samples on their own farm. No reservations are needed and they will explain the entire process of making syrup and the difference between the grades. One will see who the maple trees are tapped in the spring and how one's favorite pancake condiment is created.
One will meet the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generations from the Luce family and find out a family Vermont farm at its finest.
They offer cheese samplings including their Sharp Cheddar Cheese that has been aged over six years. They're part of the Vermont Cheese Trail.
After the tour, shop within their three-room farmhouse gift shop.

Other Maple Farms In New England
There are lots of other farms and sugar houses to visit across the northwest. A number of these are small-family run farms that do not have set hours. For a lot of of these, it is best to call ahead and plan a tour of the sugarhouses if one is planning to come throughout their off-season months (May to February).
