The Resident Soho is a new hotel around the London scene. It is a person in the Resident Group, an accumulation of luxury 4-star boutique hotels which have opened across London and Liverpool.
Formerly referred to as Nadler, this hotel group has undergone a significant revamp with refurbishments carried out in all 379 bedrooms and public areas in the Soho, Covent Garden, Victoria, Kensington and Liverpool locations.
After lockdown, I was lucky enough to be invited to remain in the Resident Soho. It had opened in February 2022 simply to be forced to close them from March until July. It's sadly just one example of a hard-hit industry where other businesses haven't fared far better.
Now back and able to welcome guests again, the Resident Soho offers a chance to relax, unwind and also have a semblance of a normal mini-break away. This is what it had been like:
The Resident Soho: Things to Expect
For expensive hotels located in the middle of busy Central London, the Resident Soho is surprisingly quiet and secluded. Its grand townhouse-style building are available on Carlisle Street which intersects Dean Street, setting it back in the crowds that find yourself and down it.
As you wander up to the building you will find an uplifting winged statue of the moon goddess Selene over the entrance. It cuts an impressive image against the light-stone walls and it is really worth a photo stop if it you admire.
Once you're with the revolving doors you're bathed in the warm, inviting glow of the lobby. It's not a large space however the beautifully chosen furnishings and colour palette of forest green, cream and bursts of orange give it an enjoyable retro vibe that oozes glamour.
The Resident Group's new makeover incorporates the best of British industry throughout its interior aesthetics. Both in the general public areas and rooms, you will find classy elements from top designers including Designer and Tom Dixon as well as furnishings in the London-based Alter House and materials from Bute Fabrics in Scotland.
The Resident Soho: The Accommodation
Our room was spacious, airy and quiet that was impressive considering we were within the roaring heart of Soho with Oxford Street just a stone's throw away. Some soft furnishings have been removed to keep impeccable hygiene and ease of cleaning because of COVID. Regardless of this, the area was still comfortable with a little desk, chair and sofa within the corner.
The showpiece from the room was, of course, the large king-sized bed heaped with downy white pillows as well as an enticing cloud of the duvet. A sizable TV was installed on the wall opposite which held the all-important details to gain access to the complimentary WiFi.
The room had a stylish ensuite bathroom including a bathtub and shower, beautifully soft warm lighting and fluffy white towels. The whole aesthetic gleamed of luxury and offered a welcome retreat to unwind in should you have had spent a busy day trip within the city.
The Resident Soho: Food and Drink
Since there wasn't an on-site restaurant in the Resident Soho, the room came equipped with a mini kitchen instead. It had been hidden neatly inside a cupboard for ease and convenience. There is a sink, microwave, mini-fridge and ample cutlery in addition to a kettle and Nespresso machine.
If you're feeling peckish, there's a handy supermarket about a minute's walk from the hotel otherwise you can request a small grocery shop that'll be put in your living space prior to your arrival. You may also order a selection of drinks and snacks in the hotel during your stay.
The aim of the Resident Soho, such as the Resident Group ethos as a whole, would be to encourage guests to explore the bars and restaurants in the neighbourhood like, well, a homeowner. At every other time, this is a huge perk but if you're worried about being too social in the middle of a pandemic you can order UberEats or Deliveroo to your room (we did). Don't worry, you're absolutely spoiled for choice with regards to takeaways in the center of London!
The Resident Soho: COVID Safety Measures
In preserving the times, we can't talk about hotels and not mention the COVID safety precautions which have been put in place. Rest assured that the Resident Soho takes the security of their guests and staff seriously.
Just some of their hygiene precautions include politely requesting that you wear a mask in most public areas and inspiring you to employ the hand sanitiser stations before and after the lift. The reception desk has a protective shield across it, all keycards are rigorously sanitised and public areas are cleaned at least every An hour.
As you reach your room you'll notice a sticker between the door and doorframe. This lets you realize that nobody else has been in your room because the cleaner. If you are staying more than one evening you can ask that the cleanser tidies your living space, otherwise you can put a 'do not disturb' sign up the door.
The Resident Soho: Nights Upon us Initiative
The Resident Group is a proud partner from the non-profit Nights Upon us, a nationwide initiative that gives complimentary two-night hotel stays to ICU nurses throughout 2022 to thank them for their services during the coronavirus pandemic.
Over 6,000 nights have been pledged from a lot more than 50 hotels across the nation to support the re-opening from the UK's hotel industry as well as the promotion of domestic tourism.
